Predicting the future

Nov 4, 2015 | Tony Byrne's View

Predicting the future is still beyond us, despite advances in science! However, when it comes to our finances, there are several things we can predict with a great degree of certainty:

Prices will continue to rise;
There will always be taxes;
The state will not provide you with sufficient pension income in retirement;
We are likely to live longer than previous generations.

The above points combined mean that it is more important than ever to make sure you have a full financial plan in place. Advances in medicine mean that people are living longer in retirement, placing more and more pressure on the state. Combine this with a smaller, younger tax-paying population that are unable to support the growing number of pensioners and it is not hard to see that the numbers don’t add up. This is all part of the Demographic Time Bomb! The good news is that whilst it is not possible to predict the future, you can help shape your own financial future! Taking professional financial advice from a qualified Chartered Financial Planner like Wealth & Tax Management, will allow you to put a full financial plan in place, to help you meet your future objectives. Rather than waiting until retirement to find out that you don’t have a sufficient income to live the life you want, if you do some lifetime cash flow planning now, you will learn what your income in retirement will be if you do nothing and what it could be with a financial plan in place. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to meet your financial goals. Each year that goes by can potentially significantly reduce your retirement income or mean you have to work longer until you retire. Having your savings and pensions invested the wrong way, can make the difference between a happy retirement and financial freedom, and a financially difficult retirement. It is vital that you review all your finances to make sure your money is invested in the best possible way to meet your objectives. At the same time, you should also check you are not paying higher charges than you need to. Older investment vehicles and pensions often have much higher charges than their equivalents today. So take a look at your future and make sure the financial future you predict for yourself is one you want!
